The Pride of a Father…

April 16, 2008

I was ironing mine and Tyler’s clothes this morning as he started to stir and began to wake up, and I knew we were about to go through our morning routine of taking a shower, brushing our teeth, fixing our hair, getting dressed, and packing our stuff for the day.  Well right before we got in the shower I took his diaper off to find it completely dry, so I quickly put him on the potty, (and when I say quickly I probably jerked his body out of socket)  He sits there for a second, and then it happened, and the angels began to sing, my big boy peepeed (spelling????) in the potty, so I start clapping and I am telling him how proud I am of him, and he looks at me with this huge smile of accomplishment and says in his baby voice, “I peepee in potty”…  And I was filled with pride in that moment over something so small, and I often find truths about God in my relationship with Tyler, but I thought man I wonder if I have ever done anything or if I do anything that makes God so proud of me that he celebrates with me and smiles with pride.  God, I pray that my life brings you joy, and the things that I do and say make you proud of me, like I am proud of Tyler…

Easter 2006

April 9, 2008

This is the picture I mentioned in an earlier comment…

This is a series we started on Easter in 2006, easter was “Opening Day”, the rest of the series was spring training…

The whole theme was that no matter where you are in life or what you have been through, today can be opening day for you, it’s a new season, you may have been the strike out king last year, that doesn’t matter, you can be something different this year…

We gave everyone a squishy baseball that had our logo, and the theme of the day, we had people walking around handing out peanuts, it was a great day…

BIG…

April 7, 2008

I saw this on the back of a Verizon Wireless catalog…  I thought it was a challenging thought for those of us in Leadership…

Big Risks.
Big Thinking.
Big Goals.
Big Wins.

I like it…

what do your insides look like????

April 1, 2008

I have been challenged this last week by something…  A couple of weeks ago at softball practice we were hitting one of my bats and the weather was really too cold to be hitting that bat but we did anyway and it cracked…  Well I put it up and didn’t think anything else about it…  I got to wondering what the inside of that bat would look like, so I took it to the next practice I was able to attend, and hit with it until it busted, and I was able to see what the insides looked like, and it didn’t look anything like what I thought it would look like…  By looking at the outside of the bat I would have never been able to guess what was on the inside…  Something very similar happened a few days later, I came to the office and realized they had started doing some construction on one of the exterior walls of our building, and they had to tear up the sidewalk that ran next to the building and dig down to the foundation.  I was amazed at what I saw when I looked at the foundation of the building…  It was terrible, there was all kinds of stuff that shouldn’t have been there, there were bricks without mortar, there were pieces of wood, bricks were crooked, it was really bad.  You would never have known it by looking at the surface…  That makes me think about how many times in our lives, maybe right now, how everything looks great on the surface, but underneath the surface things are not so good…  We are really good at putting on our game face, and on the inside we’re dying or we’re hurting and we won’t tell anyone, or we are really struggling and we are too prideful to talk about it, or maybe our foundation is falling apart and if we don’t do something about it our whole life is going to fall apart.  SO…  WHAT DO YOUR INSIDES LOOK LIKE???????
